What is village and farm tourism?

Mass tourism in the world is turning to more informative kinds of travel. The three S (sun, sea, sand) are being substituted by the three L (landscape, lore, leisure). The name to this all is village and farm tourism.

Village and farm tourism is rather a new trend in the tour industry. They also call it agro-tourism or green tourism. At present it is actively developing all over the world including Russia. Village and farm tourism means that tourists stay in the rural area and have rest and/or take part in agricultural work. It is very good for the people who are looking for new impressions and who have never lived in a village. It is obligatory that tourists have to be accommodated in the rural area or small towns where there is no industry and no multi-storey building.

The infrastructure of village and farm tourism has to include good transport facilities between the settlements, places for leisure, available facilities which render information and servicing.

In our country such regions as Belgorod, Leningrad, Kaluga and Tambov have become the most successful in village and farm tourism development. Village and farm tourism is also actively developing on the territory of Karelia, Chuvashia, Moscow Area and Altai Krai. So far only there village and farm tourism development is worthy of note. Though there are a lot of undeveloped places in our vast country that are good for this kind of rest. The niche is still unoccupied. Specialists in tour business forecast the unheard of success for this industry. It is necessary to note that Russia has huge resources for that. Moreover, tourists are mostly interested in the oldest villages and settlements. It is connected with their wish to travel to a remote place untouched by the civilization.
