International Conference «Tourism brands – the generator of destinations’ development»

Being in the first five countries with the biggest tourism potential (according to UN WTO experts) our country deserves to be on the first place. Millions of tourists should see treasures and riches of our nature, historical and cultural and ethnographic heritage, all our country’s transcendent beauty and charm. To achieve this we have to apply plenty of effort aimed at increasing quality of touristic product and providing service safety for objects of national tourism industry.

The Federal program "Domestic and inbound tourism development in the Russian Federation (2011-2018)" was approved by the Russian Federation Government in August 2011. For the first time in Russian history significant resources are being attracted for creation of modern, competitive industry infrastructure and improvement of tourism opportunities of our country.

Our richest cultural and historical heritage is a truly superb resource for tourism development, but the problems are still many as well. The investments in the development of cultural and informative tourism and the promotion of the tourism potential of the small historic cities of Russia will serve to revive the centuries-old national traditions and raise the quality of life and regions as a whole.

This December the Federal Agency for Tourism (Rosturism) together with the regional authorities of the Russian Federation holds regional forums and conferences that contribute to promoting tourism opportunities in our country and one of them is the International conference “Tourism brands – the generator of destinations’ development” to be held in Vologda and Veliky Ustug on December 13-14.

 

The examples of successful travel brands are a clear indication of the fact that they work not only for the travel industry, but also for the general improvement of the investment image of the territories. The priorities for the regional tourism development are: further work in this direction, formation and promotion of tourism brands, marketing cooperation of regions.

The tourist and recreational opportunities of Vologda region most often associated with such brands as "Vologda lace", "Vologda butter" and, of course, "Veliky Ustug - the residence of Ded Moroz" declared the most successful tourist brand of Russia.

The Vologda Land is one of the largest regions in the European part of Russia and Vologda is one of the oldest cities in Russia, possessing the most valuable historic heritage. The future of the Vologda Land associates directly with development of tourism — the sector which may become one of the leading trends in the regions economy with its invaluable monuments of history and architecture, unique landscapes, countless rivers and lakes, virgin forests, rare useful arts and trades.

Velikiy Ustyug is an ancient Russian city, was founded in the XII century and today it is a unique museum-city. For its rich history, extraordinary architectural look and the beauty of the surrounding nature Veliky Ustug was announced to be the birthplace of the Russian Ded Moroz.

A number of events will be held:

  • Plenary session will review current trends in the marketing of the Russian territories and experience in creating destinations and areas branding process, public-private partnership in the promotion of tourism brands in the domestic and overseas tourist markets, etc.
  • Interregional meeting on the implementation of the federal target program "Domestic and inbound tourism development in the Russian Federation (2011-2018)" in the North-West Federal District.
  • Off-site session with visiting tourist sites of Ded Moroz residence (The trail of fairy tales, Ded Moroz House, a branch of the Moscow Zoo, etc.)
  • During the roundtable "Building regional brands" the project "Veliky Ustyug - the birthplace of Ded Moroz" will be presented

On the second day of the event an alternative program with visiting St. Cyril-Belozersky Monastery, and holding round-table "Tourism as a factor in the development of small cities in Russia» provided.
